          Ventura stated that the rise of spiritualism in the mid-19th century coincided with a fashion for paranormal parlor games. The craze was ‪"borne on the back of it as a kind of entertainment" she said, and for the most part was indulged in by the upper classes who both had time and space in their homes for it.
